Luxcon Instructions:

Welcome to the Cinelux Luxcon Contrast Control Filter System. There are a couple small steps to connecting to your Luxcon that are easy to follow and fairly simple to troubleshoot if you come across any connection issues. It is designed to be very straightforward but the app may require some time to get used to to take advantage of all the features.

Mounting the Luxcon:

The Luxcon will mount in any mattebox that uses the Arri LMB standard filter tray size. This includes, but is not limited to, the Arri LMB, Bright Tangerine, and Tilta mattebox systems. For the best fitment, insert the Luxcon with a filter already installed in the stage closest to the lens, with the filter release facing the camera and the Luxcon Logo facing out.

The Luxcon is also designed with several threaded mounting points, allowing for creative mounting solutions and accessories to be mounted on the Luxcon itself.  Using any mounting arm with a ¼-20” or M4 threaded connector, the Luxcon can be mounted in front of any lens, opening its use to any creative interpretation. Keeping camera builds in mind, it is also designed with these mounting points to mount motors or other optical FX tools to expand creative use.

Powering the Luxcon:

To power on the Luxcon, first connect the provided USB-c cable into the plug on top of the tray, then connect the USB-a side of the cable to your power source.  The Luxcon is designed to take up to 5V of power so please make sure your power source is rated at 5V.  Most USB power ports are regulated at 5V but it is best to double check. Up to 5.5VDC can be provided to the unit. At maximum brightness for all colors (R, G, B, W), the maximum possible current draw is 2.6A. Different lighting scenarios will draw varying amounts of current. The recommended and most conservative power supply is 5VDC, 3A. Any power surge that results in a malfunction will void any warranty from Cinelux. Once receiving proper power, the Luxcon should power on and the LEDs will illuminate in a standby color. If the Luxcon does not illuminate after a few seconds, cycle power by unplugging and re-plugging the USB-c side of the cable from the power port.

Clicking the button on the Luxcon will cycle through pre-set settings.  It will not toggle power nor engage it into a connect mode.

Connecting the Luxcon:

Once the Luxcon is in standby with the LEDs illuminated, it is ready to be paired in the app.  Once you have installed the Luxcon Control app, open the app on your device and follow the prompts on the main screen: Tap the CONNECT button, then once in the BLUETOOTH menu, hit Scan for Devices.  Your Luxcon with corresponding serial number should be listed. Tap it once and wait for it to connect.  Once it has connected it will bring you to the control settings.  Test that the connection is established by changing the color and brightness values.

Connection troubleshooting:

The Luxcon uses Bluetooth to connect to the control app.  If you are having connection problems, try to limit the amount of wireless devices operating in the area around the Luxcon. Excessive metal in the physical presence of the device can limit its bluetooth broadcasting range. The app currently utilizes Bluetooth Low Energy 4, with a practical sensing range of 10 to 50 meters, depending on environmental factors.

If you suspect the Luxcon is not connected to your BLE device, you can verify by entering the SYSTEM page from the left of the screen. Next to SERIAL # there should appear a value of Luxcon and the serial number.  If it reads Unconnected, there is no Luxcon connected. If the list of scanned devices is not appearing, ensure that Bluetooth is turned on and enabled for your smart phone. This may require an app restart. Some devices restrict access to Bluetooth services by default, so you may additionally need to check your device's settings to give the app permission to utilize Bluetooth functionality on your device. If the unit's bluetooth connection is lost, the latest lighting settings sent to the unit will persist until the unit is rebooted and the BLE connection is re-established.

To reconnect your Luxcon, cycle power by unplugging and plugging the power source from the top of the tray and follow the connection process to re-establish the BLE connection.
